Position: ESY Comprehensive Instructional Assistants

Position Type: Part-time, Hourly   

Department: Extended School Year - Summer 2026

Location: Hosmer Elementary School

Reports to: ESY Coordinators       

Dates: Preparation Day: July 6th, 2026

            July 7-August 6, 2026

Times: 8:30 - 12:30 Monday-Thursday 

Salary range: $25

 

Preschool:

 

  • Bridge (Sub-Separate) Instructional Assistant - 8:30 AM - 12:30 PM, Monday - Thursday
  • Dates: July 7, 2026 - August 6, 2026 (Monday - Thursday)
  • Preparation Day: Monday, July 6, 2026
  • Integrated Classroom Instructional Assistant - Preschool - 8:30 AM - 12:30 PM, Monday - Thursday
  • Dates: July 7, 2026 - July 30, 2026 (Monday - Thursday)
  • Preparation Day: Monday, July 6, 2026

 

These are integrated preschool classrooms. All preschool students are scheduled 9:00-12:00. Integrated students attend 2/4 days and sub-sep students attend 4/4 days.

General Description:

The Comprehensive Extended School Year (ESY) offers specialized instruction and related services to students beyond the regular school year. Watertown Public Schools seeks an outstanding Instructional Assistant to support students with disabilities in accessing their education for the Extended School Year Summer Program.  In your letter of interest, please indicate which level/program you prefer. We have availability in the Bridge and Inclusion. 

These are integrated preschool classrooms. All preschool students are scheduled 9:00-12:00. Integrated students attend 2/4 days and sub-sep students attend 4/4 days.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Teach groupings of special education students in preschool
  • Conduct whole group and/or small group literacy lessons
  • Conduct whole groups and/or small group Math lessons
  • Follow related IEP Goals and Accommodations
  • Teach age-related social skills and functional behavior
  • Teaching is focused on the prevention of skill regression
  • Progress monitoring and reporting

 

Qualifications Required:

  • Flexibility with respect to age groups, assignments
  • Ability to follow through with directions
  • Experience working with students at the elementary level who have significant learning and social/emotional needs
  • Experience implementing Behavior Intervention Plans and an understanding of functions of behaviors
  • Ability to take initiative to complete tasks and to assist students with de-escalation techniques and executive functioning skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a part of a team

 

Preferred:

 

  • CPR/First Aid Certification

Physical Demands:

  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer, hand-held learning devices and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
