Position: Summer Literacy Program Teacher - Substitute

Title 1 Summer Success Program

Dates: Monday - Thursday, July 8, 2024 - August 8, 2024 (4 days a week for a month)

Location: Hosmer School

Hours: 8:30-12:00 pm with 30 min of prep a day plus one 1-hour orientation 1 “day” of set up/clean up and a weekly 30-minute faculty meeting.

Rate of Pay: $35.00 per hour

Number of Positions: 4

 

The responsibilities may include:

 

This position would be on call in the morning as well as for planned absences. Pay would be determined by how many days worked. 

 

Teach grouping of students in grades K-5.  (Grouping would not exceed 10)   

  • Use Responsive classroom management - morning meeting and closing circle
  • Conduct whole group and small group literacy lessons
  • Encourage a love of reading and talking about books
  • Work with students on writing in response to reading
  • Implement the Literacy Camp curriculum and incorporate creative activities as needed 

Required knowledge, skills, & abilities 

  • Experience working with elementary or middle school students.
  • Experience collaborating with colleagues  
  • Familiarity with best practices in literacy instruction, and comfortable modeling instruction when needed
  • Holds the belief that all children can learn and learn to read and write effectively  
  • Familiarity with Responsive Classroom practices, language, and beliefs
  • An ability to engage students in using all 4 domains: listening, reading, speaking, and writing 
  • Having students engage in academic conversations during every class
  • Attend pre-program training and weekly faculty meetings.

Education/Experience:

  • A current Massachusetts Teaching License/Certification
  • Three or more successful years of experience teaching students in literacy, preferred
